The Mayor’s Reading Club is a self-paced reading program that helps to foster reading success by encouraging participants to record the length of time they spend reading each day during the summer months. Official program brochure (Español).

Program Information
June 1 - August 3, 2019

Online registration for The 2019 Mayor's Summer Reading Club begins at 9:00 a.m. on  Saturday, June 1, 2019.
  • You can go online to to register and log hours. Get help registering, navigating and logging in the online software here:
  • All hours must be logged and prizes claimed by 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2019. The Mayor's Summer Reading Club will be over August 4th. No prizes will be available after this time.
  • All prizes are available on a first come, first served basis and while supplies last, and may not be sold, traded, or otherwise used by the participant for financial gain.
  • paper timesheet is available for those who wish to track their hours on paper as well.
  • Please review all program rules before registering.

*Fire truck ride entry is limited to elementary aged children who are residents of North Richland Hills and attend NRH area schools or are homeschooled in NRH.

Percussion Things | June 6 • 2 & 3:30 p.m.
Community Room, 1st Floor
PERCUSSION THINGS is a percussion driven jazz band and interactive storytelling experience. Engage your imagination through movement, sound and song. 

Mobile Noble Planetarium | June 13 • 2-5 p.m.
Lobby, 1st Floor 
The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History’s Mobile Noble Planetarium brings the universe to the Library! Planetarium staff will help children travel through space and unleash their imaginations.

Perot TECH Truck | June 20 • 2-4 p.m.
The Maker Spot, 2nd Floor
Create and explore all things STEAM with activities from the Perot Museum’s TECH Truck.  Supplies and materials are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Appropriate for ages 6 years and older. Registration not necessary.

Critterman – “Texas Tails” | June 27 • 2 & 3:30 p.m.
Community Room, 1st Floor 
Meet and learn about this summer’s Animal Ambassadors! This event has live animals that may include a tarantula, giant toad, prairie dog,  ferret, turtle or tortoise, an American alligator, and a kingsnake.

Raptors of North Texas | July 11 • 2 & 3:30 p.m.
Community Room, 1st Floor 
Meet the birds of prey of North Texas and discover what makes them an important part of our environment! The Blackland Prairie Raptor Center will demonstrate the unique abilities and features of different raptor species.

Dinosaur George | July 18 • 2 & 3:30 p.m.
Community Room, 1st Floor 
Learn about dinosaurs and fossils with “Dinosaur George” Blasing, a self-taught paleontologist and animal behaviorist. Blasing has more than 35 years of research experience and is the writer, co-creator, and host of JURASSIC FIGHT CLUB on the History Channel.

Professor Brainius | Saturday, June 8 • 2 p.m.
Community Room, 1st Floor
Professor Brainius is not your typical mad scientist! Kids will explore their curiosity with exciting experiments, music, and technology - all anchored with positive and encouraging words. Professor Branius believes that promoting curiosity, a love of learning, and teaching students to do their best are the most important formulas he can share!

Read With Mollie | Saturday, June 15 • 10:30 a.m. & Saturday, July 20 • 10:30 a.m.
Polly’s Room, 1st Floor 
Mollie the therapy dog and her other furry friends are ready to read with you! She is a fun and cuddly non-judgmental listener that can help to strengthen reading skills and build confidence in young readers. Please arrive by 10:00 a.m. to sign up for your 15 minute time slot. There are a limited number of slots available and slots will be available on a first come, first served basis.

Texas A&M Chemistry Show | Friday, July 12 • 2-4 p.m.
The Maker Spot, 2nd Floor
Learn about the wonders of chemistry with the Texas A&M Chemistry Road Show. See live experiments and exciting reactions while learning that chemistry can be fascinating and fun!

Harry Potter’s Birthday Party | Friday, July 26 • 3-5 p.m.

The Maker Spot, 2nd Floor 
Celebrate the boy who lived at this Harry Potter-themed party.
