Anyone with a North Richland Hills library card can now download, via a website called NetLibrary, over 2,500 Recorded Books titles. Once downloaded, you have the option of either listening to the content on a Windows computer or transferring it to a portable digital player. These titles include the latest fiction and nonfiction bestsellers, book club favorites, award winning authors, and the Bible.
What do I need in order to listen to audiobooks?
Audiobooks can be downloaded or played on any Windows based personal computer or portable listening device with Microsoft Windows Media Player v9 and above, Musicmatch Jukebox v8.2 or higher, or Nullsoft Winamp v5 or higher. Many NetLibary audiobooks (nearly 1,000) can now be played on Apple computers or on iPods, Microsoft Zune, or many other MP3 players not previously supported.
How do I search for an audiobook?
A Basic Search on the NetLibrary home page (www.netlibrary.org) lets you search by Keyword, Title or Author. You can also search for text only "eBooks" in addition to the audiobooks. If you want just audiobooks, click on the "eAudiobooks" link in the "In our Collection" on the right hand side of the page. To download a book, you must log in with your user name and password.
Access is also available
through the library catalog at http://nrhcat.library.nrhtx.com/search/.

How many can I check out and for how long?
The checkout period for downloadable audio is three weeks. You may check out a maximum of ten audiobook titles at one time. The license lets you copy the audiobook to two additional portable listening devices. Information about your checked out audiobooks will be kept in the "My Checked Out Items" section of the NetLibrary website, not under your local public record.
The license for downloaded audiobooks automatically expires after 21 days. After that, you will not be able to play the audiobook, even though the file remains on your personal computer or portable listening device. You will need to manually delete the file from your personal computer and portable listening device in the same manner you delete other files. You cannot return an audiobook early. If you need to renew an audiobook, you may do so one time. If your computer is online, click on the downloaded audiobook file saved on your compuer to automatically open the NetLibrary/Recorded Books website. Follow the procedures given.
How do I transfer an Audiobook to a portable device?
You must choose the CD quality when you download if you are going to play it on a portable device. A partial list of Tested Players compatible with NetLibrary eAudiobooks is available.
Can I burn the book onto a cd?
No. You might be able to transfer the file to a cd, but the license software prevents it from being usable.
